Mason Menzies is a Haida artist, born on Vancouver island in Victoria, British Columbia. With his native family from Skedans Clan in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. Mason grew up mostly separated from his culture. Mason grew up appreciating all arts including the northwest coast arts of the first nations in Canada. However with no one in the immediate family to learn from, his appreciation ended at just that. Surrounded by artists of all backgrounds on Vancouver island, and searching for a healthy creative outlet, Mason still found his place as an artist. Just not in traditional Haida mediums.

With a passion for technology and modern media, Mason found his place in the world of digital art. Where he has been working professionally since 2014. Starting out as a 3D generalist Artist, Mason worked for years developing his skills and specializing in Environment Art, World Design, 3D asset production and Object digitizing through the way of Photogrammetry and 3D scanning. Mason now works as a Senior Photogrammetry Artist at a triple A game studio working on an unreleased, unannounced project. In 2019, Mason began a journey to reconnect with his Haida culture, which led him down a path of learning and obsessing over the arts.

Mason was self taught in the begining, learning about Formline design through books and information made available online. A love and passion for the formline art exploded and continues to this day. Now with an opportunity to work with Moy Sutherland Jr, Mason is continuing his learning journey, looking to study traditional northwest coast art. His goal is to understand, practice and represent the arts and culture in hopes of sharing the knowledge further one day. But he also aspires to preserve the art and make examples of the art more available to communities. His experience with 3D art and 3D scanning with Photogrammetry is ideal for viewing and displaying old pieces in a safe way. To work with museums, galleries and artists to create online spaces to go beyond photographs of pieces, and be able to see examples of the works in 3D.
